By WUF Kelowna, Formerly WUP
After several months of collaboration, discussion, and joint work, the Workers Unity Party (WUP), has officially joined the Workers United Front (WUF). The unification of the WUP and WUF is a positive development not only for the left locally, in Kelowna, but should be an example to the whole country on how we must abandon local-based thinking and instead embrace the building of a national workers organization.
The unification represents an important first step for building a radical workers movement in Kelowna. As we demonstrated in our document Statement on the Conditions of the Working Class in Kelowna, our city has had very little exposure to organized leftist radical politics. We hope to change this and go against the grain of this city’s history and people’s preconceptions of this city’s politics. The resources, knowledge, and organizational structures of the WUF will aid us greatly in our struggle.
We have now fully embraced working-class focussed politics over the more general activism we embraced in the past. After our two rounds of discussion with members of the WUF, we have now accepted the programme of the WUF, abide by its constitution, and agree to carry out its strategy and tactics.
